Morrissey - Paramount Theatre, Seattle - 08.22.02

The show starts. Screaming. Band walks onstage. Screaming. Morrissey appears and the love is unfurled. I like it and start taking pictures.

The show itself was quite casual. The band seemed happy to play standing in a semi-circle semi-facing Morrissey. The music was crisp, rich and Morrissey's voice strong and emotional. A precise melodic yodel here, a colossal cord fling there and you have the signature pawprints of a Morrissey show. One can argue the cause of band members gone by, but it really doesn't matter because, well, it's Morrissey.

The middle of the set yielded my favorite "Sister I'm A Poet" and two new songs. "Mexico" is very nice, and made me want to lean to and fro with a mug of cold German beer. "I Like You" was apt, as over the years I have taken note of how very sweet Morrissey is to his fans.

Morrissey will always give back as much as is safely possible. You hand him a CD of your band, he'll put it right in his pocket. Throw him some glads and he chucks them to someone out in the middle of the floor. Adding fuel to fanfire he sits at the edge of the stage and lets people touch him.

I would say Morrissey was definitely in form. When he sang "Meat Is Murder" it was apparent he really meant it. The song never sounded so revolting.

Now that's entertainment.
