Northern Exposure 2 - Sasha and John Digweed Ministry Of Sound At first I wasn't quite sure what was actually taking place on this 2CD follow-up to their popular release of nearly the same name last year (minus the 2 bit). So there are tons of tunes from various artists, most of which currently reside in my personal top ten, and there are no gaps so that's over two hours of continuous music. Not bad, but what's the point. So I dropped an original version into the player and I got the point. Not only do these guys totally remix and recreate a totally different version of the original but also go to great lengths it seems to retain the trademark qualities that made the original an original. Good examples of this practice are backwards and percussive samples on the remix of Fluke's Reeferendum followed by the mega cool delayed descending piano parts and lush female vocals on Lost Tribe's Distant Voices. In fact the list goes on an on. Sasha and John relentlessly push track after track out at you mercilessly. So this is epic house........hmmm..........yep, we love it here at electronicmusic.com. Purple from GusGus is about as close to the original mix as it gets, mainly because the chopped up vocal is so distinctive but even here they manage to push the backbeat making the already danceable piece even more so. Onto what they call EXPO2 (CD2) you'll find excellent re-works of tracks by Cygnus X, Speedy J, Third Man (one of my favourites) and a phenomenal event originally penned by LSG and well and truly worked over by the hottest thing on four legs, your friends and mine Sasha and John Digweed Rating - 925,003 (out of a possible 1,000,000) Click Here to buy it from CDnow electronicmusic.com/features/reviews/music/ne2.html |
