The Residents - Curious Stories from the Bible East Side Digital As familiar as I am with The Residents music it came as no surprise that I had absolutely no clue what was going on, both lyrically and musically, throughout the entire CD. The whole thing an invigorating breath of fresh air, from a musical theatre production point of view, and with only a hint of eighties style sensibility. Relying heavily on keyboard based orchestration to keep things moving along at a compellingly dirgey pace, the various vocalists (resident and guests, female and male) focus on all the icky bits in the Bible, the bits about child sacrifice, incestuous rape and genocide that all those righteous types seem to keep missing out, all put forth in The Residents tried, tested and ultra-real format. Don't expect any of that drum n' bass stuff, or any other relatively "modern" approach to making electronic music come to life, instead expect something completely different. A style of music that will no doubt make its way into your streaming audio feed any day soon, especially now that all the totally cool new electronic music production devices now make it possible to put together such fat and gloriously self-indulgent works as this.
