Daft Punk - Discovery
Virgin
I read somewhere that Daft Punk's latest full length release, Discovery, moves
the French duo's sound out of the classic age of 70's disco and into the 80's.
I disagree. Discovery is pure unadulterated Studio 54 style cutting edge disco,
through and through, but with a liberal sprinkling of the kind of magic that
can only be acquired by having a complete understanding of what made the original
genre tick.
From the hit lead track One More Time, which was the first single to go straight
into the French chart at number one in four years, to the closing Romanthony
led The Long Wait Is Over you can expect to be kicked into groove mode by some
of the most original examples of post disco electronic based music you could
ever wish to hear.
Those pounding Daft Punk signature beats are still there, as incessent as ever
when required, but with the addition of solid unforgettable themes that will
make you want to listen over and over, and they've also taken the black art
of space creation to another level by subtracting key elements within a track
for as long as they deem neccesary and then just dropping them back into place
as if nothing ever happened.
